The movie Go against the flow, directed by Wiesław Paluch, is now available on the Netflix platform.

Cinematography by ARTUR ŻURAWSKI.

Description of the film:

The second half of the 1970s. Several teenagers from Ustrzyki Dolne, led by the charismatic and undisciplined student of the Ustrzyki vocational school, Siczka, decided to become punks and play punk rock. They were inspired by a Sex Pistols band they heard on a foreign radio station and the new “punk” culture.

To begin with, they send a letter to Radio Free Europe asking for more “free people’s music” on the air. To their astonishment, the letter is read out in a live broadcast, and the station begins airing a weekly program on punk music. Of course, neither Siczka nor the rest of the boys have any idea of what a great thing this humble broadcast will ignite, and what great, dark powers will set out against them! The letter read on Free Europe was noticed by representatives of the communist repressive apparatus. The SB officer, Jerzy Majak, interrogating Siczka, makes it clear that Ustrzyki Dolne is not London and there will be no “punk” in his municipality. Undaunted, Siczka and his friends form, to spite everyone, a punk rock band called KSU and transplant elements of London’s “punk culture” to the backwater commune. Suddenly, some of the hitherto polite schoolchildren pierce their cheeks with safety pins, wear razor blades, chains and iroquois… Meanwhile, Siczka and KSU become nationwide stars of the “musical second circuit.”
