“The series is set on January 13, 1993, when the passengers and crew of the ferry Heweliusz set sail from the port of Świnoujście, Poland, towards Ystad, Sweden. The voyage quickly turns into a desperate struggle for survival when a powerful storm confronts them with the brute force of the sea. On land, the distraught families clash with the dark side of human nature and engage in an equally difficult struggle to uncover the truth about the disaster and preserve the dignity and good name of those lost at sea.”
Heweliusz is a fictionalized script inspired by the true story of the sinking of the ferry of the same name, which took place in the Baltic Sea in 1993. To this day, it remains one of the largest civilian shipping disasters in peacetime.
The series will hit Netflix this year, but the exact release date is not yet known.
