Netflix presents the first shots from the series “Heweliusz.” | 18.08.2025
The series Heweliusz is inspired by one of the greatest maritime disasters in Poland’s post-war history.
The premiere is scheduled for November 2025.
The cast includes MICHAŁ ŻURAWSKI, MIROSŁAW KROPIELNICKI, and SŁAWOMIR ORZECHOWSKI.
Heweliusz is an upcoming title from the creators of Wielka Woda – director Jan Holoubek, screenwriter Kasper Bajon, and producer Anna Kępińska. This time, they have collaborated on a five-episode series that combines spectacular production scale with deep emotional impact. The starting point for the plot are the events of the night of January 13-14, 1993, when the ferry Jan Heweliusz sank during a storm on the Baltic Sea. Thirty-six passengers and 20 crew members died in the disaster, and nine people were rescued.
Heweliusz is a series about the wave of injustice that began on the night of the tragedy and left a lasting mark on the families of the victims, survivors, and witnesses. It is about mourning, which in times of transformational chaos had to go hand in hand with the struggle for dignity, memory, and survival. At the center of this story are women—wives, daughters, and mothers who were left alone with their children and had to face not only loss but also the brutality of the system.
